Borehamwood Vs Dagenham & Redbridge
Friday 29th March 2024
Prior to Kick off there was a buzz around the ground due to the fact that when the sides met earlier in the season the Wood were the the far superior side and won 1-3 thanks to a brilliant team peformance, opitimised by Sousa's goal which secured all three points for the visitors. Were things to be the same again today?
Just five minutes into the game, Borehamwood having had nearly all of the ball, Angelo Balanta's pass was blocked allowing Dagenham's Perreira to play it infield to Effiong who got a slight touch wrong footing Fyfield. This allowed Josh Rees, former Borehamwood player to have a first time shot and he made no mistake, dispatching the ball into the top right hand corner and giving the away side the lead and sending the travelling fans wild. Not the start the side sitting 20th in the table were looking for.
After 12 minutes some intricate build up play from dagenham's Perriera and Hill led to the number 10 cutting inside and opting to shoot. The effort was palmed away by Ashmore but only as far as the goalscorer who followed up with a header forcing a stunning save from the keeper before another follow up shot was fired wide by Effiong who possibly should have done better. With just under 25 minutes on the clock A long throw from the left hand side was half cleared by the Wood only for a shot to bounce back into the box which was met by the head of Josh Rees who was able to squeeze it past Ashmore to double his tally for the afternoon as well as doubling the visitors lead. The home side surely needed to regroup and just get to half time.
However, only 7 minutes later a Dagenham corner was sluggishly cleared and met by Hill on the 18 Yard box. He fired the ball into the bottom left hand corner past a lotsnof bodies and past the diving Ashmore. Nothing the keeper could have done about that one and just like that it seems the game has got away from the home side. You could really start to sense the frustration in the North Bank. When it seemed it couldn't get any worse for the team in black and white on the stroke of half time the away team were awarded a free kick about 27 yards out. The 6ft 4inches striker Effiong stepped up and wrapped his foot around the ball sending it into the bottom right hand corner. Both sets of fans couldn't believe their eyes and the home team were trailing 0-4.Despite the growing discontent in the home end, in injury time in the first half the Wood were able to peg a goal back out of absolutely nothing. A Huge defensive miscommunication from Dagenham saw Tshimanga pounce and he chipped the ball over the keeper who was in no man's land. A smart finish by the inform man scoring his fifth goal since rejoining the club. Half time Score: Wood 1-4 Dagenham & Redbridge.
After just 30 seconds in the second half, a Borehamwood corner was swung in by Erico Sousa, which was met by the head of Robinson who forced the Dagenham keeper to get down low and make an extremely crucial save. A much more positive start for the home side. With an hour gone a free kick for Dagenham in a similar position to the one in the first half saw Effiong Strikes the ball once more. This shot Was deflected Into the Borehamwood goal, but thankfully for the home side it was deflected in by a Dagenham player who was in an offside position, therefore the goal didn't stand. The score remained Borehamwood 1-4 Dagenham &Redbridge. With 15 minutes left to play another Borehamwood Corner from the right hand side Found the head of Tyrone March who headed it straight at the Dagenham keeper. This was a huge chance to bring it back to within two. This was the last major chance of the game and it finished Borehamwood 1-4 Dagenham and Redbridge.
